    Buena Vista

    A combination slope and wall to 80 ft. (25 M) then a gentle slope to the bottom. There are several large canyons on the walls. Usually done as a gentle southerly drift dive (approx. 1/2 kt) but watch for the counter-currents near the big fissures.

    With large oceanic gray sharks as well as large schools of jacks, snappers, barracuda, and eagle rays, Yap Corner is a very exciting, newly discovered (autumn 2000), dive that has all the potential to equal Palau’s famous Blue Corner.

    Sunrise Reef

    This site marks the northern boundary of regularly dived areas. A very gradual slope provides a large area of prime habitat for coral growth. The gradual dropoff provides hundreds of acres of habitat at 40 – 70 ft. (12 – 20 M) for hard corals to flourish on.

    Stonehenge

    A vertical wall that curves in & out. The current usually less than 1/2 knot makes this an easy drift dive. This portion of the reef has a steeper wall than most of the sites on the east side of the Island. Sometimes done as a night dive if the seas are particularly calm.

    Sakura Terrace

    A series of gentle terraces with many niches, crevices, and coral outcroppings drops gradually to a coral plateau. Often used for night diving when the seas are calm. The gentle slope also helps to make it easy to maintain a safe option.

    Pelaek Corner

    Following the edge of the plateau at about 60 ft. (18 M) allows you to overlook a large sandy plain. Looking up, you may see schools of reef fish; looking down, you may see sharks and stingrays on the sandy ocean bottom.

    Paaw Reef

    The north section of the reef consists of a gentle coral slope that extends to an abrupt drop-off that starts at about 70 ft. (22 M) The south portion of the reef has a large shelf of the flat sandy bottom at about 65 ft. (20 M)

    Goofnuw Mini Wall

    This Goofnuw Mini Wall is located on the south side of the Goofnuw channel which extends much further out than the north side. It is generally done as a drift into the channel with the incoming tide.

    Lighthouse Pass

    Usually a drift dive following the tidal current coming into Peelaek Entrance. The coral wall and shelves here are fissured with many small holes, chimneys, swim-throughs & crevices. This channel provided access to a Japanese Lighthouse during the war.

    Lionfish Wall

    This vertical wall forms the extreme southern tip of the fringing reef which surrounds Yap. It juts out into blue water and is washed by currents flowing past the island. Because of the steady flow of nutrients, the coral and fish populations are particularly lush.

    Aliko Reef

    A mini-wall from 20 – 50 ft. (6 – 15 M) with a broad coral plateau tapering off to the depths. You’ll find a great variety of hard corals on the walls and plateau. Some areas have large formations of bright green Cabbage Patch coral.
