Gido Braase

Gido Braase, a professional photographer and videographer has spent the past 10 years traveling around the world perfecting his art. Specialized in capturing the underwater world in all it's glory, Gido seeks to promote understanding and respect for the Oceans and their inhabitants through his work.

Born in Germany, Gido began his career in Bermuda. Although formally trained in Hotel and Restaurant Management, he quickly became enamored with diving and photographing the beauty of the island. Traveling throughout the Caribbean then took Gido to Grand Cayman where he worked four years in the video industry for Red Sail Sports and Cayman 27, a local television station. While on Grand Cayman he was also involved in a freelance video production project called Discovery Cayman, a national promotional film that runs continuously on the local television channel.

In 1997 Gido became involved with Pipin Productions, while filming The Cayman Challenge, a world record free diving championship. As second head cameraman, he was in charge of filming all promotional clips as well as filming Francisco "Pipin" Ferreras, the world champion free diver, as he was attempting to set a new record of 515 feet on two breaths of air, in the main event.

After spending eight years in the Caribbean, his travels then took him on an extensive tour through Asia, ultimately landing him in Micronesia. While there, working for Manta Ray Bay Hotel and Yap Divers, Gido had the opportunity to spend extensive time both filming and photographing the majestic Manta Ray as well as the breathtaking splendor of Yap. Both the awe inspiring beauty of the diving, as well as the warmth of the locals captured his heart. Yap is truly the jewel of Micronesia.

Most recently, Gido spent 14 weeks in The Silver Bank filming and documenting the breeding and calving grounds of Atlantic Humpback Whales. He now resides in Essex, Massachusetts, where he has established his company, Deep Blue Productions. Deep Blue both markets and sells his images in a number of formats, available for use in both the public and private sector.

Gido is currently working on several freelance assignments where he will be traveling to film and photograph various species of whales and dolphins throughout the world.
