Hello Bill and Patricia,
Margaret, Bob and Laura Hansen
Good morning, Bill,
Randy Schmidt, Marcia Schultz, Rap Bell, and Kelly Mount I also want to mention how terrific Manta Ray Bay Hotel is now. I've always liked the place but they've done a multi-million dollar renovation (partly due to the typhoon two years ago and partly due to a desire to improve) and it's simply hands-down the nicest dive resort you could probably stay at almost anywhere in the world. Bill Acker has done a phenomenal job in making this a lovely diver-friendly place. The rooms are huge and gorgeous, there's now a swimming pool, the dive shop area has been greatly expanded to include multiple gear-washing troughs, camera-rinsing troughs, a huge gear drip-dry rack, individual dive lockers, and a really great camera area that includes lockable camera stations. And the staff goes out of their way to make sure you get what you need. More details will come in the trip report but suffice it to say, Manta Ray Bay is setting a new standard for the industry. Ken Kurtis
Hi Bill
Bob & James Ode to Manta Ray Bay & Yap Divers
Whilst travelling half way round the world
This liquid golden nectar,
On board the floating restaurant,
But dont forget the diving
Its not just sharks and turtles, So travel halfway round the world Pat & Paul Kilroy Hi Bill: Jane Spencer here from Atlantic Edge in Maryland. We were with you in late February. I have been delinquent in reporting back to you with comments and most importantly THANKS! My group had a wonderful trip to your part of the world. Despite the fact that we were located at two resorts in Yap...we had a marvelous adventure. The members of the group that stayed accross the road were envious of our location because they all felt that it was so very comfortable and more directly responsive to us as divers. Well, what would they expect...a dive resort for divers designed by divers! I really appreciated that your staff is such a hearty representation of the Yap people. All too often as "eco-tourists" we go to a place and pump our money into some international corporation...and in the end I know that only a tiny bit of it ever gets to the people we have gone to visit. The smiles and willingness to share culture was always evident in all your staff. Thank you. Now of course, we enjoyed your Mantas. Our visit was during the middle of an extended windy period and the channel was blowing around and visibility was reduced. Nevertheless we had multiple mantas on every dive and they were just as awesome as we had hoped. And the mandarinfish are a true delight...I felt like such a voyeur. I came away envious of the abandon with which they celebrate the sunset each day. Do you think that could ever catch on among the human species (here in Washington) NOT? I want to particularly commend you on the village trip that we took (the members of our group staying at Trader's also joined us.) We felt like guests in the village rather than tourists. We felt welcomed and were happily asking questions and sharing thoughts with Stan and the group of younsters dancing for us. It was a very special treat. While no one ever asked us...we were aware that the village raises money for educational, health and cultural purposes by its hosting of tourists. My group wanted to be extra generous in offering money for the scholarship fund...and we did. I later hoped that doing this was the right thing...perhaps the tour guides could make this clear at the start of the trip. I loved Manta Ray Bay. You have done an amazing job and are to be commended. The Mnuw was all I knew she would be. I had read every bit of your log on her refitting and journey to Yap. It was like stepping onto a familiar deck to be aboard. I would give my eye teeth to have joined on as crew for that journey. I continue to hope that once I am able to retire (four years and counting) I will find some wonderful dive location like yours willing to hire an oldish lady to guide divers. I will look for the help wanted sign on your website. In the meantime I will plan the next trip. Again many thanks... Jane Spencer Bill... Howdy from Wyoming.........yes, there are a few of us that dive here. We were guests are your fabulous facility the first part of October. The accommodations were great as well as the food. The boat captain (Henry) and divemaster (Patrick) were wonderful. Everyone was very nice. We had a wonderful experience in YAP. The mantas, mandarin fish and crocodile fish were awesome. Thanks for a great time. Mark Dear Bill, I just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel
Your staff did a great job, and I want to pass my appreciation to them.
Hope to see you again in the near future. Sincerely, Chip Guard Bill, We are already talking about coming back to visit you. Our first stop was on the Odyssey and Truk Lagoon, but we all agreed the Mantas were way more exciting than the wrecks. Thanks again Mike Heffington Dear Bill, I don't know the words to thank you for the wonderful time I had at your fabulous resort. I've re-lived my week with you a thousand times and cannot get the magic of Manta Ray Bay Hotel out of my head! I was so looking forward to diving with the mantas, but I never expected the gorgeous wall dives, reefs, Yap Caverns, the Mandarin Fish, OR the adrenaline pumping shark dive! Yap would be a fabulous dive destination without the mantas, but with them?!?!?...Absolutely magical... I can't say enough about your staff and resort. I was made to feel welcomed, cared for, and "at home"...this was truly the most magical trip I've ever taken. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and can't wait to return! Fondly Yours, Cynthia St. Clair Dear Bill, I want to thank you and your staff for taking such good care of the Canvasback
team. This was the first time that I personally stayed at the Manta Ray
and now I can understand why it has always been the place to stay and
why there are groans from everyone when we have had to consider a different
hotel in which to stay. Jacque Spence I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you at Manta Bay hotel and Yap divers for making my vacation a VERY special one!!! You promised mantas and certainly gave me way more then i had expected. Only 5 mins into my 1st dive i was blessed with my 1st encounter! Nine mantas at one time, UP CLOSE and personal!!! Dive after dive seemed to only get better. I have come home with over 200 shots - none of which were poor enough to delete! Memories were had that will last a lifetime!!! Thanks again!!! Linette Kline
I did manta and critter dives with Larry "Liveaboard" Smith and Dr. Dre. I went on an unforgettable offshore fishing trip with Bill, the Yap Anglers Fishing Team and 500lbs of fish that literally jumped into the boat.
Best of all, I got to share it with way too many interesting people, both guests and staff, who are now all like family to me. That's what makes AckerWorld so great. It's not just a resort, it's your home in Yap everytime you get there. Needless to say, the friendly staff had to drag me, kicking and screaming, to the airport when it was time to go. I cannot thank you folks enough. I love you guys, Joe Cunningham It wasn't until we were talking to the cabin crew as we sat on the plane on the Palau runway that we learned that the island of Yap had been hit by a typhoon three weeks previously. As we walked from the plane through the Yap airport, we saw the first signs of how hard the storm had hit Yap. Blue tarpaulins covered the roof and became a feature on many of the buildings and homes that had been wrecked by the wind. We were unsure what to expect as we drove to the hotel as much of the vegetation has been hit really hard, roofs of houses lay where they had been tossed and debris littered the sides of the roads. What a surprise! The hotel was already fully functional although still battered and bruised in many places, the temporary restaurant served fabulous choices of food three times a day and the bedrooms were dry, clean, comfortable and the air-conditioning was working. So no worries there. Our next concern was how hard had the dive sites been hit? Would there be any of the manta rays around that we had traveled 11,000 miles to see? How much of the corals and underwater life would be left? Second Surprise! We had 11 fantastic dives. Saw enough mantas to last a lifetime, stored up memories of huge corals in a myriad of colors and saw sharks and turtles on many of the dives. As for the rest of the fish, they obviously hadn't heard of the typoon as they were in abundance in a wide variety of shapes, forms and colors. We had two great guys on the boat, Mattias who had all our kit ready for us on every dive and was there to help us on with our equipment. He also gave the requisite haul onto the boat at the end of a tiring dive and took care of the equipment once again and Chomed who guided us on the wonderful dives never tiring of pointing out the more unusual and sometimes obscure creatures that we missed. Yap is not a island to be missed and we both hope that we will be able to return sometime. Whatever you've heard about recent events on the island, it is probably not true. Yap IS alive and flourishing. Sincerely, Pat and Paul Kilroy Bill, Reflecting back on our recent stay in Yap, we had a fantastic time at your hotel, and the diving was unbelievable. Dive Master Chomed escorted my family to some of the most amazing dive sites on the island. The abundance and variety of sea life is remarkable. While moving to our next dive site, we spotted several mantas feeding in shallow waters. Chomed instructed us to ease into the waters. Immediately, we were swimming with mantas. The dive at Mil Channel was (again) incredible. The 6 mantas performing their choreographed performance for the entire dive were awesome. The cuttle fish that joined us at our safety stop was over the top. But the most memorable moment, was Chomed offering our daughter a sea cucumber to hold. NOT IN THIS LIFE TIME! Being one of the first divers to Manta Ray Bay Hotel after Typhoon Sudal, I was moved to see the sprit and character of the people on the island. The people of the island showed me they are moving forward, and that they will make things better. We greatly appreciate the quality of service and the genuine effort of all the people of Yap in making our stay comfortable. We look forward to returning soon. Sincerely, Walter Hackerott I was at the hotel in February, and had a wonderful time. The people of Yap were very friendly and always greeted me with a smile. I was amazed at the ease at which they went through their day and awe struck by their spirit. It does not surprise me to read that they are sticking together and putting things back together. I realize that they hurt due to loss and they and all your staff will be in my prayers. I will be back to see them as soon as I get the chance. The people there left their footprints deep in my soul. Take Care, Richard Peckler Dear Bill, My husband, Mark, and I wish to thank you and your fine staff for all the kindness and consideration given to us during, and after, Typhoon Sudal. Mark and I were with the Zegrahm tour group that boarded at your hotel during the storm. We were sickened by the destruction wrought by Sudal. Mark and I feel deep sorrow over the losses suffered by your staff and all other islanders. We pray for all of you. I wish to commend all the wonderful people at your hotel who took such excellent care of each of us despite the raging of the storm. Dina, Anna, Peter, Christoff, and so many others whose faces I remember but whose names I cannot recall...each of you remain in our grateful thoughts! I will always remember how your staff tried to keep things clean and dry, cook rudimentary meals under primitive conditions, and keep us comfortable during the storm. Despite their houses and possessions being destroyed, each one of your staff found time for a kind word for us. They never lost their composure. We were most impressed with their fortitude. Logging onto your website's text and photos, I am relieved to see your hotel being restored to a state of normalcy. The photo of diners in the former third floor guestrooms brought a wry smile to my face. After the typhoon passed, I recall toasting the hotel with a pre-dinner glass of wine in the broken third-floor corner room. It is so good to see progress is being made! We hope to return to Yap someday and reunite with all the fine people who cared for us as they would family during the typhoon. Good luck to all of you! Best regards, Gina and Mark Ruttle Bill et al, What a wonderful time. Pure magic. Thanks for the e-mail and all the love while at Manta. I'll be back it was a great, no fantastic time. Bill aka papa I did enjoy my stay at Manta Ray Bay Resort very much, thank you. The Mantas were great, our guides, John and Henry were also great. I liked the dives we did for the little stuff as much as the Mantas, I think it was called "Macro", it was full of Nudibranchs, Pipe fish, Lion fish. The Cajun Wahoo burger at the restaurant was the best, I had one everyday for lunch. I wish I had one now! I live on the North Coast of Kenya, Malindi. I live on the beach in the marine reserve. I dive quite often; we do get Mantas, Whale Sharks, and a variety of great stuff but nothing like Micronesia. I do love to travel and dive new sites. Yap was tops! Thanks again, Joe Baker Mogethin, I just want to quickly let you know how much our group (American Divers Internatonal) enjoyed our stay with you and the diving on Yap. I simply cannot say enough about the hotel and the diving and the dive guides. I also want to compliment you on the airport greeting and transfers to the hotel. Of the three islands we visited, yours was the only one that was organized and "had its act together" as far as airport arrivals and transfers to the hotel and next days diving activities briefing.....then transfers back to the airport. What a pleasure!! We want to come again!!! Thanks again for a job WELL DONE! D. J. and Edith Morin, Owners Bill, just a note to say thank you for running such a great place. My wife
and I were with you for 4 days a few weeks ago and we had a wonderful
time. Alex, Jan and Melody took good care of us and eating on the Sea
Hawk was wonderful. thanks again, we will be back Ralph & Lena Correia Hello, We just returned home from a recent dive trip to Palau and Yap in which we had the pleasure of diving with Yap Divers and staying at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel. We had a fantastic time in our too brief visit to Yap, and wanted to thank you for the wonderful attention provided by the hotel and dive shop staff. From the minute we stepped off the plane and were greeted by the staff, we were pampered with every question and need answered. They do a marvelous job. That midnight Saturday flight has to be brutal on the staff. The manta diving was as exciting as expected and we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful wall reef diving. Special thanks to Theo, who gave us an excellent tour of the island and a brief glimpse into the lives of the wonderful Yap people. We are already looking forward to our next trip Yap! Charles Banister and Heather Weldon. Our group of 14 spent 7 days on a liveaboard at Palau, and 4 days on Yap; the time on Yap was definitely the best! The dinners we had on the Pirate ship were wonderful, especially the celebratory dinner after Gary and Toni got married on the beach on Dec. 2nd! And thanks to advice from one of your divemasters, we had what everyone said was the greatest dive of our lives our last day, when up to 75 mantas came by the cleaning station late in the afternoon (I'm sure many were the same ones, but still!!). Yap is definitely one of the places I want to go back to (and spend more time on the island itself). Steve Murray. Dear Bill and all at Manta Ray Bay, Fortunately I have a few fantastic pictures to remind me of all the superb diving. Say Hi to the Mantas for us and we will see you again soon. Once again, thanks to you all, Kelly and Nick. Dear all, Kind regards, Peter Hildebrand Dear Bill, Many thanks Allie Jones & Charles Leonard Estes Park Dear Bill, Good Diving, Harry L. Cure, Jr. Bill, I just wanted to thank you for you hospitality and looking after us during our recent stay with you. We had an outstanding time, and were most impressed with your dive operation. In particular, I can't say enough about Alex who is easily one of the best dive guides I've ever been out with. I don't know if it's a natural condition on Yap, but the friendliness of your staff was second to none. Always a hello, a smile and what can we do for you. Take care. Many thanks, John Chernesky Dear Bill, Having arrived home and unpacked the bags, we would like to thank you and your team for the hospitality and kindness which went into making our holiday a most memorable one. Joan is still over the moon at getting her open water certification! In the diveshop please pass on our special thanks and regards to John, to Alex, and to Henry, who jumped in the water without hesitation to help Joan with her backward rolls off the diveboat. From the hotel side Michael stood out from an excellent team, with his enthusiasm and knowledge while leading both the cultural and island tours. Please make sure Randy gets tested on the Chinese I taught him - I am sure you get some native Cantonese speakers staying at the hotel! We have travelled a lot in Asia, and have seen some beautiful places, but none have touched our hearts the way that you all did in Yap. See you next time - hopefully soon With best wishes and regards, Dave and Joan Simmonds Dear Bill, Thank you for a great trip at Manta Ray Bay Hotel. You and your staff performed beyond the call of duty and all 26 of us (baby Ben included) had a great trip. I though I'd send you some quotes we received from some of our travelers after we asked them how they liked the trip for our newsletter: Bill D: The word would be "excellent"! It's hard to say what the most popular feature of the week was. On another level: your practice of commissioning the stores for additional dives was a nice touch and greatly appreciated. Your flexibility with the diving schedule allowed us to enjoy our dives without missing a great meal and made the day much more relaxing...it's hard to believe that resorts still haven't figured out that these folks we travel with are on vacation and the resorts schedule just isn't that important! For the life of me I don't know why everyone feels the need to visit Yap only as a junket from their Palau vacation. Sincerely, Mary and Ed Salamone Bill, Having just returned from what is arguably one of the most enjoyable times of my life, I wanted to pass along to you a couple of observations. You have assembled a most professional staff that has mastered the attributes of personal contact, concern, and competence that render each guest a member of the Manta Bay Ray Hotel and Yap Divers family. The only word that can fully fathom the feeling I felt upon arrival is "acceptance." Staying with you was like visiting family -- the side of the family that you always enjoy no matter the time or circumstance. I commend you on your strict adherence to maintaining the personal side of professionalism throughout the entire operation. In particular I would like to single out the contributions of Geof and Trudy Loe. What a tandem! In all my 25 years of diving, I have met no equal to the genuine concern, safety awareness, and knowledge of the environment as exhibited by this team of teams. Collin Adams provided the icing on the cake, again demonstrating a level of professionalism combined with the ability to relate directly to each individual diver in a manner which noticeably calmed anxious nerves while boosting individual confidence. On the Hotel staff side, please extend my personal gratitude to Fausta, Randy, Cathy, "King Willie," and your lovely wife, Patricia for the holiday of my life. I look forward to the day I can return to Yap. In the meantime, I assure that any influence I may wield to someone coming your way will surely encompass, "Manta Ray Bay is the only way to enjoy Yap!" Semper Fidelis, Rob Creamer Bill, I have just returned from Yap and the MRBH. I came with a group from Okinawa, Japan and John Chandler. I honestly can not say enough about the trip. We have all been to great places in the world. However; what made this trip different was your staff. I really have to mention Bill the chef, Fausta at the Bar, and everyone encountered there. But my most interaction and time was spent with Geof Loe, Colin, Willie and Trudy of the dive staff. I have never met a more professional and knowledgeable staff in my life. They made the trip, I know you must get complaints on occasion but I cant imagine why. Keep up the good work and thank very much for sharing your hotel and experience with us all, I will never forget it. Respectfully, Brian A.Tobler Dear Bill and Staff, My wife Tori and I just want to say thank you for such a wonderful time.
We were at your resort with the wild and crazy Bob's Dive shop group.
Since we've returned we have done nothing but talk very highly of your
Island, resort and the treatment we received. Thank you so much. I think
I've convinced other diver friends to come and check you out. Dave and Tori Knoff Dear Mr. Acker, Having just returned from spending a week at your hotel I just wanted
to write a short note to thank you for the wonderful holiday we had. Peter & Julie Marshall, England. Dear Bill, Several weeks ago my wife Victoria and I were at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel on our honeymoon and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We want you to know that even though you weren't there that week, you were very well represented by Geof Loe, his wife and your Yappese dive guides. Manta action was a little slow, which is under no one's control, but Geof made sure we dove some spectacular reefs and macro sites. The outer walls are amazing - we envy you the opportunity to be there year round. We also want you to know Bill Munn's kitchen took very good care of us as well. Aside from great food, coffee with a wake up call is an idea more resorts should copy! Victoria and I hope to be down your way again sometime in the not too distant future. In the meantime, our best regards and compliments to you, Geoff, Trudy and Bill. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience. Yours, Victoria and Tom Shorten Bill, Visited your wonderful hotel for a week during June, 2000. I have nothing but my highest of accolades to give you and your staff. Geoff and Trudy at Yap Divers made our stay a memorable experience. I can dive just about anywhere in the world and I have to recommend to all of my friends that if they have not enjoyed the Manta Ray Bay Hotel and Yap Divers, with Geoff and Trudy, then they have not had the BEST dives in the world. You have lived up to your repuation and that does not happen very often. Your hospitality was so good we actually missed everyone the day we left and it really had a impact when we arrived in Palau and did not receive anything near the wonderful, and very genuine, treatment we were provided by Geoff and Trudy. Had more than 30 divers over to my house last weekend and they were thrilled at the video made for us by Trudy and at least two have already booked with you. Please keep it going and I look forward to seeing you all again in April, 2001. John Chandler My husband and I just returned from a stay at MRB and had the best time. We wanted you to know that the staff was so friendly, we're telling everyone to go there! Trudy and Geoff were fantastic - he runs that dive shop with the customers in mind, and her videography is wonderful. We were very pleased to have Xavier as our diveguide every dive with help from Hayes and Niko - they got to know us, and diving with them was a pleasure; nobody telling us time was up etc. The food was outstanding - far beyond our expectations. We are sincerely planning to return for a longer stay. Thank you very much, Jessica & Chris Elam Hello
Bill & Staff,I thought that you might enjoy these pictures I took diving last April. The first one, I am laying flat on my back on the bottom as this Manta glides over me skimming my fins with his underside. I was using a 20mm Wide Angle Lens but he is just to close.
The second is a Manta coming toward me over Wenmay's head.BR Ken & Wenmay Bill, I was sorry to have missed you during my recent stay. I just wanted you to know that you have a terrific operation. The people are the most important. The location does not hurt either. The people are willing to solve problems (as in my case), are competent and friendly without being like syrup. I feel I was very lucky to have Geof as my diving instructor. He was instrumental in getting my certification during my stay. I just wanted you know that I appreciated my stay and the effort you made to create your business. Your place is special and I will be back. Regards Helmut Kapczynski Dear Bill, Yap came as an extremely pleasant surprise to all four of us. Initially it was just a stop over and see the mantas but once we got our feet wet we realized that we did ourselves an injustice not to have spent any more time there. However, it is in the future plan to spend more time diving the reefs in Yap. The flexibility, friendliness and service of all staff members including the dive shop personnel, Jeff and Trudy, truly made our stay memorable. Annette and Piers van der Walt Your dive guides and boat captains are among the best we have had anywhere, in over ten years of diving. Melvin D. Smith The Manta Ray was the best experience I have ever had with a hotel. Geof Loe and his wife are among the most outstanding dive professionals whom I have ever known. Dan Wile Chicago, Illinois Greetings Peter and Bill et al, We very much enjoyed our stay at MantaRay Bay and Yap Divers. Everything was wonderful. As I had previously mentioned to you, I am very interested in the culture of Yap. We went on the cultural village tour with Trudy and had a great time. The most important thing that we learned was that three days is not long enough for a visit. We enjoyed Palau and the Carolines also. We will visit Yap again and spend an entire week. Please be as diligent preserving the culture as you are with the environment. They join to make Yap a true paradise balanced nicely between the graciousness of the people and the pristine environment. Thank you and your staff, especially Geoff, Trudy and Anne for a memorable experience. We would like to extend a very special thanks to our dive guide, John. John took us under his wing and made sure that we, as pretty novice divers, had a memorable experience. We appreciate his kindness and professionalism very much. We hope to visit with you all again. Thanks and Kind Regards, Joe & Claire Bill, I was part of the Sea Dwellers group visiting your Hotel and Dive facility from February 20 - Feb 22, of this year. I just wanted to send another note of thank you for the exceptional service I received from all members of your staff, both in the hotel, restaurant, and dive groups. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would certainly recommend your facility to my fellow divers. Thank you, Lou Turse Bill, Just wanted to let you know how thoroughly we enjoyed our stay with you at the beginning of the month!! Your staff took excellent care of us-the hotel was beautiful, we loved our room (the deluxe oceanview)--what a great idea to have that private deck with the hot tub-we had such a wonderful time just stargazing from the hot tub!! The food, of course, was to die for - Bill does a fabulous job. Everyone on your staff was so friendly and eager to help. We had come from 4 nights in Chuuk and 4 nights in Palau and your staff was by far the most helpful we encountered. And of course, the diving!! When we booked the trip we could hardly wait for the diving in Palau. Well, I can definitely say that the diving in Yap far exceeded our expectations and was certainly better than the diving in Palau. And not just the mantas-your reefs are gorgeous. The coral is much prettier than in Palau and the fish life was incredible!! Our trip was almost lengthened by 4 days because the plane that was supposed to take us to Guam was unable to land. While it would have created some problems for us back home, I was secretly rather disappointed when the airlines said they would send a plane special that evening to take us to Palau and then on to Guam. Four more days would have been heaven!! Just wanted to let you know that of all the diving experiences we've had, this was the tops!!! Hope to stay and dive with you in the future. Again, thanks for everything. Jamie and Lisa Lawler, Kenosha, Wisconsin Bill, I will never be able to express my sincere gratitude for everything you and your staff did to help my husband Walter(Willie)and me during our recent eventful stay. One would think needing emergency surgery during our first day in Yap would ruin our vacation, but not with all the wonderful support of the staff at MRBH. They anticipated our every need before we could even think about it. From sending a crew to meet us at the ambulance and follow us to the hospital, trying to arrange an emergency flight to Guam, driving our friends to the hospital to wait with me, delivering a hot, delicious lunch while I awaited my husband’s return from surgery, and even preparing a first floor room in case Willie couldn’t manage stairs. Peter even convinced me to dive the day Willie was released and picked him up from the hospital. Bill Munn was so wonderful preparing special meals to meet Willie’s dietary needs and even sending awesome soup he specially prepared for me to take to the hospital. Not only was the food the best in Micronesia, Bill went out of his way to anticipate and meet our special needs. Please extend our thanks to the entire staff for all you did to make our stay enjoyable- Tommy, Jaap, Fran, Kathy, Patricia, Chris, Delores, Piciu(sp?), Julie, Sherry and everyone else. Special thanks to Alex-you’re a lifesaver, Bill Munn, Peter and Bill Acker. You really know how to treat people and hire an excellent staff! We will always be indebted to you and will highly recommend your resort. Eileen Kruer Cincinnati, Ohio After reading the guests comments, I thought it time to tell you what our experience was like. We stayed at MRB for seven days (six dive days). Without exception, it was the finest diving trip Ive ever had (I've been diving the Carrribean and Pacific for thirty (30) years. Without exception, we personally experienced everything you say in your advertising. Unusual as it sounds (reads?), your advertising, unlike others, is an understatement of the experience. From the dive masters, to the food (God bless Bill Munn), to Gido, to you and family, to the staff, and to the Yap people everything was better than advertised or expected. As a former restuarant owner and hobby cook, I truly appreciated the food and service (especially difficult in your local). As a long time diver and traveler I equally appreciated the service and attitude of everyone. Thanks for the experience and am looking forward to Spring 99 visit. Joe, Barbara and Joseph Rutigliano Also Bill, ....... I wanted to tell you what a wonderful time we had at your operation a few weeks ago!! The food, the accommodations, the dive operation, and your staff from top to bottom are first rate! You spoiled us as our week in Palau after we left you was no where near as comfortable as the week we spent with you, and everybody that sees the video from Gido is awestruck! The diving in Palau was great, but the operation, people, ...etc......couldn't compare with what we enjoyed in Yap. Kevin Brunton and Anna Leon Today is our second day home from Micronesia and Greg and I wanted to let you know how very much we enjoyed staying at Manta Ray Bay Hotel and diving with Yap Drivers. Alex is an exceptional divemaster with the utmost concern for our safety and enjoyment. Gido's video of us with the mantas is something that we shall treasure forever. You are blessed to have two such good people along with all the other staff that treated us with courtesy and always so willing to answer questions. After Yap we did go to Palau for a week and the diving was very good but not as special as our four days spent in Yap. Please give both Gido and Alex a warm hello from us. We hope to visit you again. You truly have a world class organization!! Greg and Terri Envey We had the pleasure of being quests at your hotel in the beginning of this year. I dont even know where to start the praise... We had a wonderfull , great, fantastic time ! Not only the diving but everything in the hotel is taken care of, pure luxury. Please give Bill Munn our greetings, we miss his wonderfull cooking and talks over a cool beer after a dive (and all the lovely cakes his wife Caroline makes, hmmm !) and Freddy (hope the kittens turned out well) for a respect him for caring for the environment and the reefs and mantas. Nathalie & Daniel Eijgendaal We have been crazy since returning from vacation! I wanted to send this note to tell you personally what a fantastic stay we had in Yap. The hotel accomodations, staff and dive operation were all absolutely fantastic. After going to Palau and Truk after Yap, we can definitely say that Yap diving is way under rated. Thanks to your crew we saw our first Manta ray, gray reef shark (must have been 15 feet in length!?!)and lion fish. We have recommended Mantaray Bay Hotel to all of our diving friends. Most of all I wanted to thank you for your generosity and trust in loaning Jill and I your personal camcorder. Because of your thoughtfulness, we captured memories which we can see and share with friends for years to come. I made sure to share that story with all our diving friends as an indication of what they can expect in terms of your willingness to please your guests. By the way, the camcorded I ordered from B&H Photo came in record time and Phote Palau made immediate arrangements to bring it out to the Aggressor boat. I trust your camcorded was returned to you by Photo Palau without any delay. Finally, B&H took the broken camcorder back without any questions asked. Thanks to you and your staff, we had a truly fantastic vacation in Yap. Hope to see you all again soon. Rick and Jill Endres I wanted to thank you again for your hospitality and support during our extended visit in Yap. I really enjoyed staying at your hotel, and diving with your Crew. It doesnt get any easier than to fall out of bed 10 minutes before the boat leaves, then stumble next door to the dive shop without worries, because the boats are ready and loaded, including delicious breakfast cakes and tea. The Manta dives were an incredible experience for me. They are definitely on top of the list of my best Ocean encounters. The dive staff did everything to make our job easier, and were patiently putting up with our tangled mess of camera equipment that was taking up half the boat. Steve really helped us out with emergency repairs, and he gave us his last stash of film so we could continue to shoot. The instant gratification of seeing our slides just hours after the dive was a real bonus. Stefanie Brendl We just finished our photo album from our trip last month to Yap. We had SUCH a great time staying at your resort! Wow! We loved it! The rooms were very comfortable, the divemasters very knowledgable, patient, & fun, and we enjoyed the restaurant with every meal! Before the trip, I was wondering if wed be lucky enough to see the mantas during the 1 manta dive that our schedule allowed. Thanks for arranging for the mantas to be there! We were awed by the sight of the five creatures dancing at once, so close to us. One of my favorite memories is having dinner from the bar patio while watching a simply gorgeous sunset. Thanks again for a great time! Michele Mathys Thanks again for the great stay and the warm hospitality. Yap is such a great place for photography. We came up with some really nice images. The MRBH and Yap Divers seems to be running quite well and the hotel has to have the best food in Micronesia. My kingdom for more blackened ahi. The dive we had March 9 with the mantas doing their incredible mating ballet has to rank as one of the finest ocean experiences Ive had in 20 years. In the last 13 months Ive been to the Silver Banks to dive with humpbacks, Turks & Caicos for a whale shark experience, Palau for dropoffs, sharks, baitballs and also macro with mating mandarinfish, explored a new wreck in Truk and also visited a new marine lake in Palau, dove volcanic sands for ghost pipefish off Bali and found a new site north of Amed and drift dived with Ocean sunfish off Lembongan. I also started a sunset spinner dolphin watch program on Guam and finished a new fish book on Guams marine observatory. It has been quite a year but Yap really topped it off. Tim Rock What a pleasant surprise to find you in cyberspace! Our group of 5 recently spent three wonderful days with you diving and exploring Yap. Althugh we visited and dived in 7 countries we invariably speak of Yap and the Mantas first when recounting our travels to friends. In addition to the SPECTAULAR diving I have to also compliment the chef. From Manila to Bangkok to Tokyo the best food we had in 16 days was with you! We are looking forward to returning next year and say hello to Mike Musto if you talk with him. Thanks for the great diving and superb hospitality. Mike Rose |
