Maxine Bamlul

Front Desk Receptionist

Born in Yap on the 9th of October, 1988, Maxine is a city girl in Yap being a native to Colonia, Yap's town center and 'metropolitan' area of the island. Maxine graduated from Yap High School in 2006 and moved to Guam to attend the University of Guam, majoring in Education. She returned in 2009 and worked at the Yap State Legislature as an administrative assistant. Maxine then wanted to expand on her career by trying out a different field which she did in 2011 when she came on board as one of our youngest receptionist.

Maxine is usually the first cheerful voice you hear in the morning when she gives you a wakeup call to go along with your complimentary coffee or tea.

Callista "Cally" Fanapin

Front Desk Receptionist

A native to Yap, born on March 21st, 1980 and a resident of the Gagil Municipality, Cally has been with the company for ten years. After completing an Associate's Degree in Computer Information System from the College of Micronesia, Cally did a short stint as a bartender/waitress at one of the local establishments then made the important move to the Manta Ray Family in 2002. She started out in the Manta Ray Boutique as our sales clerk and quickly worked her way to being one of our star employees as a receptionist.

Cally will greet you when you first visit us and she will be more than happy to make your stay the best in Micronesia.

Front Desk Receptionist

Born in Port Moresby, New Guinea (yep you read that one right) on the 7th of May 1984 and from there, she kept moving. >From New Guinea to Pohnpei to New York to Kosrae to Chuuk where she graduated high school from the Saramen Chuuk Academy. After high school graduation, May moved to Yap and spent two years at the College of Micronesia where she studied Liberal Arts before beginning her career at the Manta Ray Bay Resort in December 2006. May is also heavily involved in her village clubs and associations and also a member of the Tomil Municipality Ladies' Dance group.

Quote: "I am always amazed when talking to guests to discover how few people know about Yap. This is a wonderful island, with a tremendous traditional culture, excellent diving and the resort is first class in every way. I am proud to be Micronesian, proud to work here and proud to help our guests enjoy their visit. I just wish more people would visit us. I know they would go home happy."

HELEN LIMED

Front Desk Receptionist

Helen has been with our family since Junior year at Yap High School. Born on November 26, 1983 she worked as a waitress in our restaurant before graduating in 2001 and leaving to attend the College of Micronesia, where she graduated with an Associate's Degree in Tourism in 2005. She then returned to work with us in 2006 as the Assistant Food & Beverage Manager until she was promoted to our Food & Beverage Manager in 2009.

Because of family obligations, Helen decided to step down from her managerial position to help in our front office. She helps in all of our departments as well as being the first representative of our Manta Ray Family that you will meet upon your arrival to our island.

Favorite Saying: "Yap is only boring if you don't go out to explore it."

Front Desk Receptionist

Louise was born in Iloilo, Philippines on the 31st of December 1983 and graduated high school from West Visayas State University in Calinog. She then graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Western Institute of Technology in Iloilo City. Unfortunately for Louise, but fortunate for our guests and us, she discovered the tourism industry before she began using her college degree. After graduating from college, Louise began working at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, an 108 room deluxe facility, as a front desk clerk and moved up the corporate ladder to become front desk supervisor where she was working when we called. You may recognize the last name as her father Teolu Pedrosa has been our Plant & Property Maintenance Manager for some 20 years now and her brother Jude Pedrosa is in charge of our IT department, communications and most importantly, keeping our pool sparkling clean.

Quote: "I love my job at the Manta Ray Bay Resort as it feels like I am not working at all. My co-workers, our guests and the Acker family all help to make this a dream job."

MERCEDES "MERCY" TINNINGMOW

Front Desk Receptionist

Mercy is one of our newest team members recently joining us in August of this year. After graduation from Yap High School in 2009, Mercy immediately left to study in Pohnpei at the College of Micronesia majoring in Business Administration. She graduated in 2011 with an Associate's Degree and soon after returned home to Yap where she worked several jobs before finding her place in the Manta Ray Family.

Mercy is often the last person you will see before going to bed every night as she bids you a good night's rest.

Favorite Saying: "Don't worry you will have fun. Trust me."

Concierge

Born in Yap on the 7th of August 1969 and graduated from Pohnpei Agriculture & Trade School (PATS) and began working for Continental Micronesia as a flight attendant for a year and a half. Began working with Bill Acker at WAAB Transportation as an insurance salesman. Moved from the insurance office to the accounting office and then moved to the hotel full time in August of 1993.

Theo trained in Japan for 2 months in 1994 as a concierge and has continued to learn the hospitality industry from the ground up. Theo will be one of the first people you meet as you arrive in Yap and he will personally insure that you have a safe and enjoyable trip to the hotel.

There is no one in Yap better at conducting historical and cultural tours as is evidenced by the warmth shown Theo from our guests. Very knowledgeable, honest and articulate, he is one of the key people at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel & Yap Divers.

Outlook on his job: "Meeting people and making new friends is very important to me. Working for the best dedicated dive resort in Micronesia gives me plenty of opportunity. I honestly look forward to every new day at the resort as you never know what will happen."

Concierge

Born in Yap on the 10th of October 1978 and graduated from Yap High School in 1996. Attended the Japanese Agricultural School in Palau and graduated in 1998 with an Associate Degree. After school, Richard moved to Japan to continue his Agricultural schooling at the main campus. Upon returning to Yap in 2000, Richard found a job in the hospitality industry and worked with Trader’s Ridge & O’Keefe’s Bar. In 2004, he moved up to the Manta Ray Bay and has worked as a Concierge since then. Fluent in English, Japanese and of course Yapese, Richard is an invaluable part of our team and one of the first people you will meet when you get off the plane in Yap.

Quote: "I especially like the tour guide part of my job because I enjoy meeting people and I really take pride in my island and our culture which I am very happy to share with each of my guests."

Plant and Property Maintenance Manager

Born in Iloilo, Philippines on July 20, 1952 and graduated from high school in 1970 on the Philippine island of Negros. He graduated from the Far East Asia Technical Institute (FEATI) in 1975 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. (BS-EE).His first job after college was as a maintenance supervisor at a Iloilo transportation company. He moved to Yap in 1985 after being offered a position as an electrician at United Builders in Yap. He worked at WAAB Transportation in Yap as Electrical Supervisor before moving to Manta Ray Bay Hotel in 1994 as the Plan and Property Maintenance Manager. Teolu is better than "duck tape" -if he can't fix it, it's broke.

IT Manager, Communications Specialist and Pool Engineer

Jude, son of Teolu, brother of Louisa and husband of Leslie, was born on the 21st of April 1979 in Iloilo, Philippines and graduated from CAIC High School. After high school Jude went to Our Lady of Fatima University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. After college, Jude began working at Montana Crystals (bottled water) as Operations Manager and from there he moved across the Philippine Sea to Yap and the Manta Ray Bay Resort in September of 2004. His wife and young son MJ joined him in 2007.

Corporate Controller

Born in Yap on the 11th of October 1970. Graduated from Xavier High School and graduated from Guam Community College. Attended the University of Guam for 2 years before returning to Yap. Began working at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel & Yap Divers in April of 1996 and is known throughout the organization as one of our very best employees.

Key Words: Cool, suave and sophisticated with a disarming smile sum up Carmen pretty well. She will know your name once you have been here for a few hours and she will help you with anything during your stay with us.

Leslie Pedrosa

Gift Shop Clerk and Pedicurist/Manicurist

Leslie is a native to Iloilo, Philippines and is married to our IT Manager, Jude Pedrosa and was born in September 8, 1980. After moving to Yap in 2007 to be with her husband, Leslie wanted to occupy her time while their son MJ is attending school, and we needed a clerk for our Manta Ray Boutique, and so lo and behold a deal was struck.

She is more than happy to help you find the best souvenir to take back home or enhancing your Yap experience with a pedicure or manicure at our Taro Leaf Spa.

Owner & Masseuse

Born in Yap on the 17th of March 1963 and graduated from Yap High School. Afterwards she attended the University of Guam for a year before returning home. Patricia is married to Bill and the mother of 4 wonderful children. Now that the kids are grown, Patricia has begun working fulltime at the hotel and opened the full service Taro Leaf Spa.

Personal promise: I guarantee that an hour of my massage will relax and rejuvenate you whether you are tired from travel or too much diving. I very much enjoy helping people and like to get to know our guests better. The intimate setting of a personal massage is the perfect opportunity to do both.
