New Moorings - Bill's Project for the Summer

Click in image to view larger version As the high season crowds dwindle and the ocean calms down, the intrepid crew of Yap Divers will be busy repairing, replacing and installing mooring buoys. These buoys are so very important to the preservation of our reefs and as such, we will be spending hundreds of hours and several thousand dollars this Summer in ensuring that each of our dive sites have a secure anchorage for our boats.

The Department of Marine Resources will assist us by providing some of materials required to install the more than 20 new buoys that Bill intends placing this Summer.

New buoys are planned for Lionfish Wall, Gilman Wall, Big Bend, Millennium Gardens, Tabletop Reef, Sakura Terrace, Mi'l Channel and Valley of the Rays.

In addition, we will be working to repair some of the current buoys that are beginning to show signs of wear and tear. Also, as part of this ambitious project, the staff will be busy searching for new dive sites.

Bill is also hopeful of finding the permanent home of a resident school of scalloped hammerhead sharks as well as the birthing place for Yap's famous manta rays.

There is room at the Inn and on the dive boats for any of you who wish to join us this Summer. Please contact Bill for more information.
